Troll 2 has been widely hailed as one of the best bad movies ever made what with its documentary called "Best Worst Movie" and also topping the IMDB Bottom 100. Sometimes though a film can be overpraised in its horrendousness. Will Troll 2 stand up to the critical analysis that has debunked such films as Gigli and Mommie Dearest?
The short answer? No. No this movie is one of the worst ever made.
The long answer is that Troll 2 is undoubtedly an incredible film. Each time you watch this film, you catch something new in its delirium. Its a wonderful treat upon each viewing. Its so crammed with crumminess that when you stop laughing maniacally you find just another terrible thing to laugh at in the next second. You can't stop laughing and it's brilliant. This movie is why we do what we do.
The acting is so bad. We can't think of anything that has an entire cast doing so poorly with only one line delivered in the whole thing. Only Manos can come close to having such an entirely failed ensemble. But their terrible awfulness carries this thing at a pace rivaled by none. Michael Stephenson is such a treat as a terrible child actor and is the true shining star of this thing. Connie Young is an achievement. Connie if you are reading, this film wouldn't be the same without you. Thank you for gifting us your performance. George Hardy is perhaps the most likable awful actor ever filmed and Margo Prey may be the most underrated part and upon further viewing gets better with each pass. Lastly, Deborah Reed's bonkers take on an "evil witch" is true majesty. While the others may suffer from lack of acting talent, Reed truly dives into her role with full force and the result is truly mind-boggling on why this is the choice she made. Brava, my lady.
Grandpa Seth....what? What the hell is Grandpa Seth? He has the powers of the Beyonder but diagetically he is just a spooky ghost. If all members of the undead had the powers Grandpa Seth is given than the world would truly be a different place, probably wouldn't even exist. His character makes zero sense and continually gets more out of control in each scene. I would have liked to have gotten a sequel that is just Grandpa Seth and Joshua going on space adventures. Brilliant.
No fan of bad movies should miss this film and very few have. The majesty of Troll 2 is that its truly a film for EVERYONE. You can try to get your highbrow artsy-fartsy friends who only speak about Richard Linklater and François Truffaut and try to show them The Room or a Neil Breen movie and you will never get them to watch another one of "your" movies ever again. Show them Troll 2 and you've got someone who has just expanded their knowledge of what it takes to screw up a movie. It's the most accessible bad movie ever made and is a completely treat for all who view.

Jackie and I have seen it, Sam has not who is the primary remarker that you mention. However, remember that documentaries statements don't exactly make things fact. There is a suspicious level of tongue-in-cheek humor in Troll 2 that lend credibility to Sam's statements that Claudio knew what he was doing. I've often felt that there's even a chance that Tommy Wiseau is a genius and The Room is a great farce that is so incredibly bad that no one can see through that it was intentional. But we could both be assholes and wrong as well.
