Our list compiles the highest paid actors from 2014 (according to Forbes.com) and those that really got their acting start staring in budget, cult, and/or bad movies.
Dwayne Johnson - $52 Million in 2014
Saying that Dwayne got his acting start in bad movies is a little bit of cheating. We know that he got his acting start in the WWE as The Rock. But he still started his film acting career by staring in such bad movies with the first being The Mummy Returns in 2001 as the Scorpion King. He is still a main-stay in our favorite bad movies and we can't wait to see more of him in the future.
- The Mummy Returns (2001)
- The Scorpion King (2002)
- Doom (2005)
- Tooth Fairy (2010)
- Fast 5
- G.I. Joe: Retaliation
- Fast & Furious 6
Leonardo DiCaprio - $39 Million in 2014
Nominated for 4 Academy Awards and winning 2 Golden Globes for his performances in The Wolf of Wall Street and The Aviator, many consider DiCaprio to be a "good movie" staple. However his career didn't start out that way. His first film role was in Critters 3 and then followed that up in Poison Ivy, while then going "all retard" in What's Eating Gilbert Grape (which is a fine film) he starred as Kid in The Quick and the Dead (directed by Stinker Hall of Famer, Sam Raimi).
- Critters 3 (1991)
- Poison Ivy (1992)
- The Quick and the Dead (1995)
Liam Neeson - $36 Million in 2014
Before being the "new" handsome old guy that has a particular set of skills in every movie his is in, Liam had some real awful (or awesome) movies to get going. We are happy to see that things haven't really changed and we all want more.
- Excalibur (1981)
- Krull (1983)
- The Delta Force (1986)
- Darkman (1990)
- Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999)
- Clash of the Titans (2010)
- Wrath of the Titans (2012)
- Battleship (2012)
Ben Affleck - $35 Million in 2014
Oh boy...where do we start here? First by saying that Argo and Gone Girl are two of the best movies on the 2000-teens (or whatever we are supposed to address this decade as). But then we have to bring up an exhaustive list of terrible movies. Poor Ben was nominated for Worst Actor of the Decade in 2010 (he IS however nominated this year for the "Redeemer Award" and we think he gets it).
- Reindeer Games
- Pearl Harbor
- Jersey Girl
- Surviving Christmas
Honorable Mention or Turning Things Around (For the Worst)
Will Smith - $32 Million in 2014
Wait what? Will Smith was in a movie in 2014? Yup....you may have missed him if you didn't see Winter's Tale but if you did, you can't forget his awful cameo. But his big payday came from producing Annie with Jamie Fox and Cameron Diaz. Will used to be one of the big boys of Tinsel-Town and it seemed like he was the guy everyone looked to see what he was doing next (so he was the Marvel franchise of the 2000s?). But then something went wrong. Either his taste got terrible or Hollywood producers thought we were sick or him...not sure.
